News From The Tonga Concert 2009
Chikuni Radio has hosted its Annual Tonga Concert on the 4th and 5th September 2009. It was the 10th year of consecutive running of this Music Festival in Chikuni Parish. During the two day event, 108 bands/artists competed in 12 categories.
With the growing number of spectators, we had no choice but to upgraded our P. A. system. Powersoft of Italy came to our help, donating the amplifiers for our new speaker rig. THANK YOU!
The theme for this years concert was “Koba Simukobonyina Abamwi”. (Make Yourself A Neighbour). Being a neighbour should go beyond geographical location. Making yourself a neighbour will reduce selfishness, greediness and start looking at how it I, as a neighbour, can help better the life of the person next to me. All barriers between one person and the other or between people will no longer exist. It is not about who is a neighbour of mine or who do I consider my neighbour; it is how I can make myself a neighbour to others – breaking all the social, geographical or economic zones.
As every year the concert tried to bring the young and the old and give a platform to exhibit talents and creativity of the artists. The joys and problems expressed in songs were mixed together as in a real life.
Did the Concert give some “guidelines”, set “standards”? We sincerely hope and pray.
